(BOP) - On March 24, 2016, twenty-five (25) inmates at FCI Morgantown completed the institution's inaugural offering of OSHA-10. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Outreach Training Program provides training to individuals in the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in the workplace. Among the courses offered in this program is "OSHA 10," which helps to ensure that entry-level workers are more knowledgeable about workplace hazards and their rights. OSHA issues to inmates who complete the course a course completion card, which is evidence to potential employers of course completion.
The OSHA Training Program is made available in partnership with the West Virginia University (WVU) Safety & Health Extension Department and OSHA. Stephen Fazenbaker, Safety Compliance Specialist and Authorized OSHA-10 Instructor, hopes to offer this course on a monthly basis.
Roger Alan Cornelison, an inmate who has completed numerous programs and courses during his time in prison and who was among the twenty-five (25) inmates recently completing the course, states: "The OSHA-10 course is one of the most informative, beneficial courses being offered, and it's nice to have the course completion card as tangible proof of my completion of the course, as I re-enter the workforce."
