Deputy Attorney General Yates speaks with staff and inmates during National Reentry Week

(BOP) – Deputy Attorney General Sally Q. Yates and her senior staff visited the Federal Prison Camp (FPC) Bryan, TX on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 as part of National Reentry Week. The Deputy Attorney General observed several reentry programs in action at the Camp, and how these efforts promote public safety and reduce crime.

While touring the institution, Deputy Attorney General Yates spoke with staff and inmates about programming opportunities and reentry initiatives available at the FPC including the Dental Apprenticeship program, the Cosmetology Program, the Residential Drug Abuse Program, Federal Prison Industries, and other programs. The Deputy Attorney General saw first-hand the Video Service at FPC Bryan that helps strengthen the bonds between incarcerated parents and their children.

Acting Director Kane thanked the Deputy Attorney General for joining Bureau of Prisons staff in recognition of reentry week. "We owe Deputy Attorney General Yates a great debt of gratitude for raising the awareness of the American people and policymakers, and for supporting the work Bureau staff do to prepare incarcerated men and women for reentry into their communities." Before departing the institution, Deputy Attorney General Yates addressed the FPC Bryan staff. She stated, "The reentry work you do, giving inmates the tools they need to succeed in the community, has a significant impact on the safety of our communities. You play a critical role in these efforts to prevent crime and strengthen public safety."

During National Reentry Week, Bureau of Prisons facilities across the country are hosting events including inmate job fairs, events for children, Legal Aid Clinics, Department of Motor Vehicles events to assist with renewing a driver's license or obtain photo identification, and other activities supporting successful reentry.
