(BOP) - The Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Butner, North Carolina, partnered with the Vance Granville Community College (VGCC) to establish an automotive vocational training program for inmates. Through a secure internet connection between the Bureau's inmate education network called i-Connect, and an online testing portal, inmates in the training program take an online test to verify their career readiness skills. Students who pass the exam receive an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Student Certificate from VGCC.
Earlier this year, four inmates passed the online exam successfully completing the vocational training program that will help them prepare for the official ASE certification exam. Vocational training programs, such as this one at FCI Butner, help inmates prepare for potential careers after release and provide valuable life skills.
